Day Trips from Naples, Maine
From the rocky Maine coast to the top of Mount Washington in near-by New Hampshire, spectacular scenery and unique activities can be found in every direction from Lakeview Inn. Having been residents of the Lakes Region for 15 years and outdoor enthusiasts, innkeepers Patty and Mike have some knowledge they are willing to share to enhance your visit. If you’re in the area for several days, here are some ideas for trips and fun activities:
A Day in Portland:
Visit the museums and shops in Olde Port, take the Casco Bay Ferry to Peaks Island, have a lobster roll on the cliffs at Two Lights State Park, take a brewery tour or spend the day sailing the bay on a windjammer cruise.
Several coastal towns including Portland, Boothbay Harbor and Kennebunkport offer whale watching tours. See whales, dolphins & seals. Spend the day exploring the town after your trip. If in the Boothbay region, be sure to visit Pemaquid Point Lighthouse to view the spectacular rocky Maine coast.
A summer haven for artists and other visitors who appreciate its isolation, its beautiful wilderness areas, and its unhurried pace. Accessible only by boat; cruises available out of Port Clyde, Boothbay Harbor, and New Harbor.
Rangeley Lakes Loop:
A great fall foliage or antiquing trip. Pan for gold at Coos Canyon, take pictures of the Artist’s Covered Bridge in Newry and stop for a bite to eat in Bethel. A great motorcycle ride, but be careful of the moose on the roads, common through the Grafton Notch area.
Mt. Washington/Kancamangus Highway Loop
Climb the Mt. Washington Auto Road to the top of the highest mountain peak in Northeastern United States. Explore the Flume Gorge. Continue on to Woodstock Brewery for a brew and a bite to eat before returning on the Kancamangus Highway, a 34-mile scenic highway that stretches through the White Mountains from Lincoln to Conway, New Hampshire. Another spectacular motorcycle or fall foliage drive.
